About the city

Marsala is the ancient Lilybaeum. Its urban center dates to 397 B.C., when the Phoenicians defeated by the Syracusans settled on the island. It is situated on the extreme tip of western Sicily, in a strip of land that is privileged compared to other places, both because of climatic conditions and its geographical location. It boasts 14 km of coastline, equipped with equipped lidos. It is a very ancient city, rich in historical-archaeological evidence and is known throughout the world for Garibaldi's landing, for its typical dishes, one among all the fish cous-cous, and for the wine that bears its own name. The historic center is enclosed by gates and ramparts that lead into narrow streets where museums, Spanish palaces, monuments and churches face each other; it is possible to visit the Baglio Anselmi Archaeological Museum where the wreck of a unique Punic Ship is kept, or take a detour to the Cathedral of Marsala dedicated to St. Thomas of Canterbury, located right in the heart of the city with its Baroque style and impressive architecture.
